Water Kiting


 

Floras Lake:

 

 Location:

 About 15 miles south of Bandon. Go 1/4 mile past the town of Langlois, and turn Right at the brown state park sign that reads Floras Lake - Boice Cope Park (this road is Floras Lake Loop) Go about 1 mile and take Right on Floras Lake Road. Go about 1-1/2 miles ~after road bends sharply to the left~ take first Right at Boice Cope Road.
 

 Parking:

 Parking is a $2.00 day use fee. or park on the gravel shoulder next to the boice-cope campground sign.

 Ideal wind:

 North

 Facilities:

 Restrooms, Camping, Showers (R.V. campsites available no hook-ups)

 Size:

 Medium

 Notes:

 Great flat water riding with average depth of 4-5 ft., Sandy bottom with some patches of "seaweed". Open to ocean riding right across the sand dune.                                                                                                                                                 Kite lessons available at Floras lake windsurfing.

 

Whiskey run:

 WHISKEY RUN

 Location:

 About 6 miles North of Bandon, Turn Left on Seven Devils Rd. Go 1-2 miles and then turn Left on Whiskey Run Rd. 

 Parking:

 Parking is available. Driving onto the beach is allowed.

 Ideal wind:

 North, South

 Facilities:

 N/A

 Size:

 Large

 Notes:

 Down winders are popular. (designate a driver for shuttle's) A nice wide open beach with compact sand. Great for kite bugging, as well as great Wave riding.

 

Pistol River:

 

 Location:

 13 miles North of Brookings, 7 miles south of Gold Beach. Look for the Pistol River State Park signs.

 Parking:

 Available at the State park Parking lot, or one of the roadside pullouts.

 Ideal wind:

 North, northwest, South

 Facilities:

 N/A

 Size:

 Medium

 Notes:

 Be cautious of riptides at the mouth of pistol river, winds are less stable further north up the beach due to big rocks.

 

Emigrant Lake:

 

 Location:

 From I-5 take Ashland St. going east, Ashland St. will turn into Green Springs Hwy(66). Follow Green Springs Hwy for 7.3 miles. take a left on Green Springs spur (gravel road. Drive down to lake, park in the boat launch area parking lot. walk 200 yds to the paragliding training field

 Parking:

 Available at the south side boat launch

 Ideal wind:

 North/Northwest winds is best, be aware of winds shadows from surrounding hills.

 Restrooms are available

 Size:

 medium

 Notes:

 Best spot to launch is from the south side, at the paragliding training field.

 

Lost Creek Lake:

 

 Location:

 

 10 Miles north of shady cove, take hwy 62 north to crater lake.  Best location for launch is at the Stewart    state marina/swim area.

 

 Parking:

 Stewart State park, next to the swimming area

 Ideal wind:

 Northwest, but southwest works well to

 Facilities:

 Restrooms are available

 Size:

 Medium-Large

 Notes:

 Lost creek lake provides consistent northwest wind during late summer. as the temperatures cool down,  convecting air currents are pushed downward, providing an average 15mph wind around 3-6 P.M.  everyday, like a switch.


 

Northern California

 

Crescent City:

 

 Location:  Just south of the town, on hwy 101.
 Parking:  Parking is available at the harbor, or use the roadside pullout along hwy 101.
 Ideal Winds  South, Southwest
 Facilties:  Restrooms available at the harbor
 Size:  Medium / Large
 Notes:  Waves are fairly small and great for beginners, be careful for surfers in the water
